History of a Doorway

This is a tale of how a doorway changed my life. Somehow my life is reflected in the home improvement outside this tiny 9x10 foot nursery. We will start with today and work backwards...

This is what the doorway to the nursery looks like today. New laminate flooring, new baseboards! Never mind that the baseboards still need to be caulked and nail holes filled - they are up!! Today my life is owned by ME. Although no one can truly control what the future holds (no matter how much planning takes place), I decide how to react, who to involve, and most importantly fill that future with hope, love, compassion and joy!! Wow it looks BRIGHT - even on a cloudy day!!

This is spring 2008. We removed the pink carpet, but lived with the exposed original linoleum tile for WAAAAAAY too long!! This is the beginning of the "clearing out" phase of my life. It was hard work. It was difficult to look at the ugly truth of the life I had allowed to become mine, even though I knew it wasn't what I wanted. It was by looking and looking and analyzing and discussing ad nauseum just how UGLY it was that I came to see how I wanted to live.

This is early Winter 2007. Ugly pink carpet filled the house. I was living in the shadow of someone else in many ways in my life. I was sad almost all the time, and struggling to make sense of a life that I never expected.

Enough of the past!! Ready for the future anyone? Little G is due in 42 days - I have a feeling that he is ready to change my life again!! For more home improvement pics, check out Flickr!

Love this post, Ang! Not only do your floors look great, you have experienced so much in these past couple of years and are such a bigger, better person because of it. Can't wait to see the floors and the rest of the home improvements in person ;)
