Rowan, my first niece, is visiting for a week. We have deemed this occasion "Camp Albuquerque." Today we had breakfast (scrambled eggs with cream cheese, Trader Joe's blueberry waffles, and strawberries) followed by a hike at Elena Gallegos Park where we saw many lizards, birds, bees and bunnies (is it still spring?). Calamity Jane (the dawg) almost got a few lizards. Rowan took so many pictures, that I actually had to take away the "tech." She lives in the electronic age where i actually had to convince her to "take pictures with her memory." "What's that auntie?" We tried working on touch, smell, sound, etc., but Rowan is still convinced that digital photography is the best way to remember things! Maybe we have the next Ansel Adams on our hands.
After comming home and cleaning up, we went to pick up Phillip and Renee. We visited the Renee's kitties spotting about 10 of them. Then went to the "Owl Cafe" for lunch. Rowan had a hot dog (and ate the whole thing), a few bites of a salad and split a vanilla milkshake with Renee. We headed to Old Town and walked past the Native American jewelers. Rowan was reluctant to partake until she realized that renee wanted to buy her some jewelry. Rowan got a gord bracelet with burnt in picture of a little bird (which she later said would make a good indian name - "little bird" that is). As we were leaving Ro spots a pretty green turquoise bracelet and gives Renee the batting the eyelashes routine and got a pretty anklet. THANK YOU RENEE!!!! Rowan loves jewelry!!
After this we head over to Explora! (the childrens museum which really has an exclamation point in the name). Rowan played for hours with marbles, water features, electricity, eliptical drawing machines, heat detector video cameras, etc. etc. etc.... Auntie was VERY tired by this point and i kept saying, "how does she still have so much energy, she has been at it for 10 hours straight..." Of course this was said with a slight sense of wonder and jealousy that i can't go like that and the thyroidic squeal of desperation. We got home and had chicken korma, garlic naan (thank you agian to Trader Joe's), couscous and broiled zucchini. Auntie felt much better after eating (is it bad/crazy to refer to myself in the third person?)... We just finished watching Nanny McPhee (thank you Netflix) and got her to bed. Mr. Moon (who is very infatuated with Ro) slept with her for about 5 minutes before Rowan let him out of the room... maybe she does have a little auntie in her afterall (kitties like to be snuggled right??)...
I can't seem to get pictures up tonight. I will try again tommorrow...
