Camp Albuquerque Day Two

Today was much more relaxed. Rowan awoke at 9:20 (a full 12 hours of sleep!). We shared some Trader Joe O's for breakfast and Nigel finished off the milk. After showering/bathing (Rowan spent 45 min in bathtub playing with her Polly Pockets), we went down to the UNM area to buy tickets for the Flamenco Dance competeition followed by breakfast burritos at Frontier Restaurant (the college hangout - open 24 hours with huge serving sizes and cheap prices with a constant flow of green or red chili). Rowan spilled her water and a skinhead bus boy cleaned up after her and smiled way too much for a skinhead... AHHH the aroma of chili and what it does for your spirit!

We stopped by Healthsouth so that I could check on Amputee Clinic. Rowan got a Amputee Coalition of America rubber bracelet that says, "LimbStrong." HaHa. She played on the parallel bars (we have some that are motorized to go up/down in/out) and thought they were very cool. Then we went down the street to Hondo's new job. He works in a building that looks like somekind of late 1990's greek temple to business (all marble and modern furniture with statues). He has a good view of the west mesa from the 5th floor. I must say that it is quite an upgrade from the dungeon on the Air Force base where he worked before. The only down side is that nobody seems to know eachother because there are so many separate businesses in this building... Here is a picture of the future US Forest Service employee...

Then we stopped by REI to get Ro some hiking shoes, but of course she had to have the matching socks and shirt! She is such a shop-a-holic!! We decided to reward ourselves with another trip to the Owl Cafe for some milk shakes... Rowan had Vanilla and I had Chocolate. It was the full milk shake with the extra in the silver mixing cup for each of us... OMG!! We were ready to pass out from the mikshake river. We could barely stand up and stumble to the car!!! Once we got home, Rowan played online (pollypockets.com) changing hairstyles and accessories on the online version of a tiny valley girl. She then entertained the dawgs and kitties with a talent show between the Polly Pocket dancers and the Dolphin Dancers. The Dolphin dancers were much more sophisticated.

After dinner (Pasta with goat cheeze sauce, broccoli, garbanzo beans, pinon nuts and grape tomatoes) we got ready to go to the Concurso Nacional de Flamenco Final Competieition. There were 6 finalists. We lasted through one troupe performance (from Mexico) and 4 individual performances. Rowan particularly liked one of the women and made up an elaborate story about how she was so mad at her husband because he was supposed to be getting food and he came back with only a skeleton - meanwhile she was fishing and fell in the water getting her hair wet. She had to dance to tell her husband just how mad she was and to dry out her hair (the lady did have alot of hair action). One of the guys that we watched was captivating, but rowan said he looked like a "bad guy"... and with some contemplation he did look like the evil psychologist from Batman Begins (the one with the scarecrow mask)... She asked to lye down and kept leaning on me, then finally asked if we could leave because she was so tired... Now we are at home and she is crashed.

Until tommorrow...
